So, it was back to the drawing board. We emptied and started over. I left out all food coloring this time. The layers are slightly more difficult to see but it sure does look prettier.
After months of waiting, Monster and I finally got to do our density experiment. We waited so long because I decided to use the honey jar, with just a bit of honey left in the bottom, for this experiment. The experiment is a Seven Layer Density Column. This is so easy to do. Not much room for screwing up. I say that, yet it took two attempts at this. You live and learn. Even though the experiment says to use food coloring, we learned that the food coloring must have a different density. We colored the water and rubbing alcohol and this is how it turned out. Apparently, not only do the rubbing alcohol and water actually mix together, but they then mixed with the color of the dishsoap forming this yucky mix. So, it was back to the drawing board. We emptied and started over. I left out all food coloring this time. The layers are slightly more difficult to see but it sure does look prettier. We had the same issue as a lot of the people who left comments on this experiment. Our alcohol and water combined. Not a big deal. Pretty cool experiment overall. Monster thinks it's super cool that you can shake it up and it all separates out again. This was a fun thing to do when we had about 15 minutes of time to kill.
