Here at the Rock house, the Fourth of July, 2013, brought about several firsts. This was the first time the kids ever saw lightening bugs. This was the first time the kids ever did sparklers. This was the first time the kids ever did pop its. This was the first time they did smoke bombs. And, most importantly, this was the first time Sunshine has ever seen fireworks.. I was truly shocked that my children had never seen lightening bugs before. (Check out what Sunshine called lightening bugs and fireworks here) But, they have trouble staying awake long enough for it to get dark enough for lightening bugs. This year, I decided to get over my fear of my kids burning themselves and bought sparklers, pop its and smoke bombs. Other than throwing the pop its at each other, I really had no need to worry. They were great and pretty responsible with them. This was really only the second time Monster has ever seen fireworks. He is an early to bed kind of kid. He saw them for the first time when he was 3. He was miserable staying up that late. So, we waited until he was 5 to try again. He fell asleep and we couldn't wake him up when it was time for fireworks. Last year, we tried to wake him up. He managed to get outside, sit on the truck, and then asked to go back to bed before the fireworks even started. This year, he made it. He was tired and a little cranky, but he did it! Fireworks here were actually on the 3rd, so we had all day on the 4th to relax. Everyone slept in. Husband made an awesome breakfast. We had water gun fights. We played games. Then we finished the 4th by walking to go get ice cream. We had a wonderful Independence Day. Hoping the weekend is just as grand!
